This work is composed with a number of mortar fins, World War II relics, detached from previously highly explosive bombs. Each of them is now partly painted with a bright colour as if from a child’s palette. In some remote islands in the Pacific Ocean, I have frequently encountered European, American or Japanese military remains, left to rust. Local children sometimes improvise with these, making toys, even playgrounds, creating as they do so a stark, almost satirical, narrative.
